How to Write Better Marketing Emails

If you’re writing a marketing email, you have an audience for whom you need to be creative, persuasive, and even funny.  So the trick is to understand what your audience knows and what they need to know.

Here are some tips for writing better marketing emails:

1. Keep the message brief and simple.

2. If your message is long, break it up, and make sure each part is clear.  For example, if your first paragraph is about your product’s benefits, your second paragraph should be about how your product is better than your competitors.

3. Keep the copy short, simple, and clear.

4. Your primary point should be in the first paragraph and the last paragraph.  The middle is for support and context.

5. Use the “3-5-3” rule.  Use bullets or numbered lists for the first three points, then the main point, then a call to action that you can use to open the next email.

6. Remember that your email is a conversation.

7. Don’t send people to the wrong place or send the wrong message.

8. Don’t write for the sake of writing.

9. Include a call to action.

Take these steps and you will be on your way to writing better marketing emails in no time.
